# Best Crypto Futures Exchange in 2026: Seven Venues by List, Tier and Settlement

Updated: 24 September 2026 — Books captured 22 September 2026 — Venue facts read 18 September 2026 — Console View operations

## Answer

The best crypto futures exchange depends on which number you count: the contract list, the entry tier
a new account pays, or where a filled trade ends up. Lighter leads these seven at
13.3 of 16, Aster lists 578 contracts, and
EVEDEX carries six asset classes on one balance.

## Seven crypto futures venues, ordered by score

Seven of the eight venues this site scores. dYdX is the one left out, because 218 of the 296
markets its indexer returns are in final settlement rather than open — more than twice the
78 it still trades — which makes its count a different number from every other
one in this column; it is read on the [alternatives](/binance-futures-alternatives) and
[fees](/crypto-futures-fee-sheet) pages instead. Read the table across rather than down: market
count, entry tier and model are three answers to one question.

| # | Venue | Score | Maker / taker | Round trip on $10,000 | Markets | Model |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Lighter | 13.3 | 0% / 0% | $0.00 | 214 | Hybrid, ZK-proven |
| 02 | Extended | 12.4 | 0% / 0.025% | $5.00 | 325 | Hybrid |
| 03 | Aster | 12.2 | 0% / 0.040% | $8.00 | 578 | Own layer 1, operator-run |
| 04 | edgeX | 11.9 | 0.040% / 0.045% | $9.00 | 172 | Hybrid |
| 05 | Hyperliquid | 10.9 | 0.015% / 0.045% | $9.00 | 324 | On-chain order book |
| 06 | EVEDEX | 10.5 | 0.015% / 0.045% | $9.00 | 52 | Hybrid |
| 07 | Paradex | 9.8 | 0% / 0% | $0.00 | 63 | Hybrid, Starknet appchain |

Scale 0 to 16. Weights: Order-book depth 30 · Round-trip cost 25 · Loss and audit record 15 · Settlement and withdrawal 15 · Contracts listed 10 · Getting started 5, one formula for the whole site, fixed on 22 September 2026: https://wp-monero-miner.com/method

Entry-tier fees on the BTC perpetual; the round trip is two taker fills on a ten thousand dollar position. Access differs by country.

## Read-offs from the rows above

1. Longest list: Aster at 578 perpetual contracts in order-book mode, against 52 at the short end of the table.
2. Cheapest entry tier: Lighter and Paradex take nothing from a retail account either side, so the round trip runs $0.00 against $9.00 at the dearest three.
3. Settlement: six of the seven write each filled trade, or a proof of it, to a public chain; EVEDEX writes position data to Arbitrum in batches.

## What the best crypto futures exchange question leaves out

Three columns of that table answer three different questions, and no venue wins all three. A long
list is mostly markets a trader will never open: the second and third longest here are padded by
contracts quoted on request and by contracts deployed by outsiders. The entry tier runs $0.00 to
$9.00 on the same ten thousand dollar round trip, before any discount.
Settlement is the quiet column: six of these seven write every filled trade or a proof of it to
a public chain, while EVEDEX writes position data to Arbitrum once enough of it has accumulated —
a different answer to what survives an operator that stops. The fourth question is nowhere in the
table, because every row answers it the same way. At 100x, one percent against a position is the whole margin behind it.

## 01 · [Lighter](https://lighter.xyz) — a long list with nothing to pay on either side · 13.3 of 16

Lighter lists 214 perpetual contracts, commodity, equity and fixed-income
markets among them ([Lighter docs](https://docs.lighter.xyz/trading/real-world-assets-rwas.md), checked 18 September 2026). A Standard account pays
0% maker / 0% taker, so the round trip above is $0.00. One sequencer orders
the trades and each batch is proven on Ethereum, where an exit queue waits if it stops.

- Works: Nothing to pay either side from a Standard account; Nine published audits, the highest count here.
- Falls short: The free account is the slow one: 300 milliseconds on a taker order; No bug bounty published, and one sequencer orders every trade.
- Not for: a taker who counts fills in milliseconds.

## 02 · [Extended](https://extended.exchange/) — flat pricing across crypto, equities and pre-IPO names · 12.4 of 16

Extended charges a flat 0% maker / 0.025% taker with no volume ladder, and settles on Starknet,
where each transaction is validated ([Extended docs](https://docs.extended.exchange/about-extended/technical-architecture), checked 18 September 2026). Only
47 of its 325 markets rest on a public order book; the rest are quoted on
request, and deposits cross a bridge it does not run.

- Works: A zero maker fee for every account, with no tier to reach; Critical reports pay up to $500,000 under its own programme.
- Falls short: The terms reserve a right to refuse access after a risk assessment; No withdrawal is documented for when the operator stops.
- Not for: a trader who expects the whole list on a visible book.

## 03 · [Aster](https://www.asterdex.com) — 578 markets settled on a chain the venue runs itself · 12.2 of 16

Aster lists 578 perpetual contracts in order-book mode, more than any venue
here, and runs them on Aster Chain, the proof-of-stake layer 1 it launched in March 2026
([Aster docs](https://docs.asterdex.com/overview/what-is-aster.md), checked 18 September 2026). Makers have paid nothing on every tier since
2 February 2026, takers 0.040%, or $8.00 a round trip.

- Works: Six asset classes and the longest contract list here; Critical reports pay up to $200,000 through Immunefi.
- Falls short: Phase one runs without outside validators and the core code is closed; Seven audits cover contracts, none the chain or the matching engine.
- Not for: a trader who will not sit on a chain with one validator set.

## 04 · [edgeX](https://pro.edgex.exchange) — every filled trade written to its own rollup · 11.9 of 16

Matching at edgeX happens away from any chain; balances and filled trades land afterwards on EDGE,
the rollup it runs for itself ([edgeX docs](https://pro.edgex.exchange/en-US/home), checked 18 September 2026), which documents a
withdrawal that goes around the operator. Its 172 contracts span crypto, commodities and stocks at
0.040% maker / 0.045% taker, the dear end of this table at $9.00 a round trip, bought on
the deepest BTC book read in this capture cycle, a median $29.2 million.

- Works: A withdrawal route documented to work without the operator; Six published audits, behind only Lighter and Aster here.
- Falls short: A 0.040% maker fee, the highest in this table; No bug bounty published; equity contracts refuse market orders out of session.
- Not for: a high-frequency maker whose margin is the rebate.

## 05 · [Hyperliquid](https://hyperliquid.xyz) — a list that outside builders keep extending · 10.9 of 16

Hyperliquid keeps its books on its own layer 1, where every order and liquidation is a chain
transaction ([Hyperliquid docs](https://hyperliquid.gitbook.io/hyperliquid-docs/about-hyperliquid.md), checked 18 September 2026). Of
324 contracts, 178 belong to the validator set and 146 were deployed by
outside builders, and the base tier is 0.015% maker / 0.045% taker. Its reported open interest was
$8.7 billion on 22 September 2026, by CoinMarketCap.

- Works: One fee tier over crypto, builder markets and spot alike; Critical security reports pay up to one million USDC.
- Falls short: The venue-run vault absorbed about $4.9 million in November 2025; Almost half the list comes from builders, not from the operator.
- Not for: a trader who reads a listing as a seal of approval.

## 06 · EVEDEX — gold, oil and currency contracts alongside crypto, at any hour · 10.5 of 16

EVEDEX has the shortest list here: 52 perpetual contracts against
578 at the top (EVEDEX documentation, logged 18 September 2026). The breadth is of another
kind — 39 crypto markets, five US stocks, one index, gold through the XAUT contract, silver, crude
oil, two currency pairs and two pre-IPO names, on one USDT balance in cross margin, with the
contract specifications putting trading hours at 24/7 on every line. The entry tier is
0.015% maker / 0.045% taker.

- Works: One cross-margin balance over crypto, shares, metals, oil, currencies and pre-IPO names; Two CertiK audits of the smart contracts; the latest, 28 July 2025, found nothing above informational.
- Falls short: The shortest contract list here, with no spot market behind it; Nothing reaches Arbitrum until enough position changes have accumulated; No bug bounty on CertiK Skynet, and no withdrawal documented without the operator.
- Not for: a trader whose strategy needs hundreds of tickers.

## 07 · [Paradex](https://www.paradex.trade) — retail orders at no fee, on a thin book · 9.8 of 16

Nobody outside Paradex sees the book: it sits in the operator's cloud, while Ethereum receives
proven state from Paradex Chain, an appchain on the Starknet stack
([Paradex docs](https://docs.paradex.trade/trading/privacy.md), checked 18 September 2026). A retail order in the web interface has paid
0% maker / 0% taker since 15 June 2026, behind a 300 millisecond speed bump; every other route
pays 0.003% maker and 0.045% taker.

- Works: Nothing to pay on a retail order, maker or taker; Five published audits and a Sherlock bounty up to 500,000 USDC.
- Falls short: The thinnest BTC book on this site: a median $728.00 inside ten basis points; A published lockdown lets the operator halt deposits and cap withdrawals.
- Not for: anyone who has to move size in one order.

## Method, limits and sources

Nothing prints here that was not polled or copied out with its date. Depth, spread and impact are this console's own work — every listed BTC book opened on this console's ten-minute poll, over the two days to 22 September 2026, each a median of what came back. The documentary columns came off each venue's own pages on 18 September 2026: fees, contract list, leverage ladder, settlement, sign-in terms, audit history. Open interest and turnover are neither — each venue's own report, as CoinMarketCap published it on 22 September 2026. Six weights, fixed 22 September 2026 before any venue was scored, score the 7 venues on this page ([how we rate](/method)). No account is held at any of them.

First line, the disclosure: publication here is paid for; row order is not. Settlement and the audit record are marked off documents: a console prints what a venue says of itself, not what it did. The fee column is a new account's rate, before volume tiers, rebates or cashback. Depth is measured, but on BTC alone and over one span of readings: a narrower contract holds less, and another hour reads differently.

## FAQ

### Which crypto futures exchange has the most trading pairs?

Aster, with 578 perpetual contracts on its order book on 18 September 2026,
ahead of Extended at 325 and Hyperliquid at 324.
The shortest list in this table is EVEDEX at 52. Counting pairs is easy; only
a fraction of any long list carries a resting book worth trading.

### How much does it cost to open and close a futures position?

At the entry tier a ten thousand dollar round trip — two taker fills — costs
$0.00 at Lighter and Paradex, $8.00 at Aster and
$9.00 at EVEDEX, edgeX and Hyperliquid. Funding is charged for every hour a
position stays open and often outweighs the fee itself.

### Where are my funds held while a futures position is open?

In a contract the venue controls, not in your own wallet. What differs is what the chain knows
about it: six of these seven write each filled trade or a proof of it to a public chain, and
EVEDEX records position data on Arbitrum once enough changes have accumulated.

### What does on-chain settlement mean for a perpetual trade?

That the record of your position and your balance ends up somewhere the venue cannot quietly
rewrite. Hyperliquid puts every order and liquidation on its own chain; Lighter proves each batch
on Ethereum; Aster runs its own layer 1. The difference matters only when an operator stops
behaving.

### Can you trade stocks and commodities on a crypto futures exchange?

On most of this list, yes, as perpetual contracts priced against the underlying rather than as
shares you own. Lighter lists six asset classes beyond crypto, fixed income included; Extended,
Aster and EVEDEX five each; edgeX and Paradex three apiece, mostly equities and commodities, and
Hyperliquid four through markets that its builders deployed.

### What is the difference between a maker fee and a taker fee?

The maker is whoever was already sitting there when the trade happened; the taker is whoever
crossed the spread to reach it. Four of the seven venues here charge the maker nothing, and none
of the seven charges the taker less: a book has to be filled before it can be emptied.

### Is there a minimum deposit to trade crypto futures?

Most venues here set no minimum beyond the network cost of the deposit, and the real floor is
whatever a position needs as margin. EVEDEX is one of the few to publish a figure — a deposit of
at least 6 USDT, by its documentation read on 18 September 2026, a floor on the deposit, not on
the trade.

### What is cross margin and does it apply to every venue here?

Cross margin means one collateral balance stands behind every open position, so a loss in one
contract is drawn from the margin holding up the others. Every venue in this table opens positions
in cross margin by default, and several offer a per-position mode as well. EVEDEX documents cross
margin only, posted in USDT.

### How does funding work on a contract that never settles?

A funding payment passes between the long and short holders at a set interval, pulling the
contract price back toward spot. The clock differs by venue: EVEDEX computes a funding rate every
eight hours and settles an eighth of it each hour, by its documentation read on
18 September 2026.

### Can an exchange close a position that is in profit?

Yes — auto-deleveraging closes profitable positions when someone else's account goes past bankrupt
and the venue has to balance the book. Some venues put money behind the problem: EVEDEX has run a
$500,000 ADL Protection Reserve Fund since 18 July 2026, by its own blog.
